WIESBADEN, Germany - Installation Management Command Europe Army Entertainment will present the 2022 One Act Play Festival and YouthFEST ’22 Oct. 7-9 at the Ansbach Terrace Playhouse at U.S. Army Garrison Ansbach. The event, held on Columbus Day weekend since 1995, will be the 27th festival.

Each year the festival encourages individual and group participation throughout the Army and U.S. forces Europe community theater programs.

On even numbered years, the IMCOM-Europe festival is an American Association of Community Theatre Region X One Act Play Festival and YouthFEST. On odd numbered years, the IMCOM-Europe festival is a One Page Play Festival and the YouthFEST Talent Showcase.

“The weekend will include six to eight one act plays and two YouthFEST productions. YouthFest shows are plays that are selected, produced, directed and performed by community youth 18 years old and younger,” said Dane Winters, IMCOM-Europe Entertainment program manager.

The shows are set for Friday night, Saturday afternoon and Saturday evening.

Along with these shows, a monologue competition for youth 13 years or older and several theater skills workshops for attendees have been planned. The workshops include musical theater dance styles, acting, auditioning, directing, singing, design and stage combat.

The three best monologues, as well as outstanding achievements in acting, directing, production design and stage management, will be awarded at the event.

“We also select the best one act play and best YouthFEST shows. They are our nominations to represent the U.S. Army and Army Entertainment at the AACT National Theatre Festival and the AACT Youth Theatre Festival. They will be held in June 2023 in Louisville, Kentucky,” Winters explained.

The festivals enhance Soldiers’ and their family members’ resiliency and readiness by providing opportunities to enhance life skills, as well as offering positive recreational activities.

All events are open to the public.
