WSMR Paralegal Specialist recognized for outstanding career

Bobbie J. Salas, Chief, Paralegal Specialist with the Office of the Staff Judge Advocate at White Sands Missile Range received The Judge Advocate Legal Service Sustained Outstanding Civilian Career Award as the Senior Civilian/Civilian Legal Administrator Sept. 13 at The Judge Advocate General’s Legal Center & School in Charlottesville, Va.

Lt. Gen. Stuart W. Risch, The Judge Advocate General, presented her with the lifetime achievement award for an Outstanding Civilian Career as the Senior Civilian/Legal Administrator for the JAG Corps.

"This lifetime achievement award represents the tremendous impact Bobbie Salas has made at WSMR,” said Vincent Liddiard, WSMR Chief of Staff. “I am grateful for her work, and the recognition she has received."

Salas started working at WSMR in January 1983 as a GS-03 Clerk Stenographer. In January 2023, she will have 40 years with the JAG Corps.

“I am humbly thankful to the JAG Corps for choosing me as the recipient of this awesome award,” Salas said. “It is a great honor to receive this award and I express my heartfelt delight to all the wonderful leaders who helped me to achieve this award.”

As the Legal Administrator and Labor Law Paralegal Specialist, Salas serves as both Legal Administrator and Senior Civilian for the White Sands Missile Range Office of the Staff Judge Advocate.

“During my career, I worked with and supported 19 WSMR SJAs. I feel that I am the face of the OSJA as a trusted teammate to the installation, garrison, and tenant commands and staff.   I am dedicated to doing the best job for the JAG Corps and WSMR.”

Salas is responsible for the entire range of office management for the JAG Office.  She was a certified mediator for the EEO office and mediated numerous cases while also supporting WSMR’s labor attorneys with EEO and RA cases. She also has supported the Contract Attorney, Legal Assistance Attorney, and the Environmental Attorney in their expert areas. Salas also served four-months at Army Futures Command as the Legal Synchronization Officer and Labor Law Paralegal.

“I am truly blessed to be honored to work for the JAG Corps, WSMR and the Army.”

Salas received the following at the ceremony: Lady Justice trophy; 40th Chief of Staff of the Army Coin from Gen. James C. McConville; and 14th Regimental Coin from the OTJAG Regimental Command Sgt. Maj. Michael J. Bostic.

Earlier this year Salas and the staff at the White Sands Missile Range Staff Judge Advocate Office received the 2021 Chief of Staff Award for Excellence in Legal Assistance.
