FORT HUACHUCA, Ariz. – The Directorate of Family, Morale, Welfare and Recreation (FMWR) joined Garrison Workforce Development representatives to host a “Hop on the Job Opportunity Bus” tour on Sept. 13 for Sierra Vista’s Cochise College students interested in FMWR employment throughout the installation.

“FMWR is near and dear to my heart,” said Heidi M. Malarchik, deputy to the garrison commander.

Malarchik started her career at the Child Development Center with FMWR years ago and described the opportunities throughout her career advancement and the travel she had along the way.

“The people here in the garrison are the people that make things happen,” she explained.

FMWR’s “Hop on the Job Opportunity Bus” tour showed students several federal, non-appropriated fund (NAF) job opportunities at the Outdoor Recreation Ropes Course and Batting Cages, Buffalo Corral Riding Stables, Irwin Pool Aquatics Center, Barnes Field House, Seifert School Age Center, MWR Rents, Thunder Mountain Activity Center and other FMWR hotspots on the installation where full-time and part-time federal employment is available.

“There are so many opportunities here,” she said.

“Applications for available jobs are submitted through USAJOBS.gov,” said Nadine Wilson, NAF human resource specialist.

She spoke to students about how to make connections and apply for the occupations of interest emphasizing the resume building assistance available.

“If you heard about an occupation today you would like to apply to, now is the time to ask,” said Karl Griffor, dean of workforce development at Cochise College.

Nobue Baldwin, a student, attending with her son, Eddy Baldwin, asked about employment salaries and hours at the Buffalo Corral Riding Stables.

“Hours are flexible to the time needed,” Wilson stated.

An employee can choose full or part-time work depending on their availability and the scheduled hours available at each establishment.

Jobs offered at FMWR are the start of a great career, said Dennis Maruska, director of FMWR.

“FMWR offers rewarding work taking care of Soldiers and families,” he emphasized, noting the great flexibility across multiple schedules for weekday, weekend and evening hours.

“Another thing about scheduling work hours is that FMWR will work with you on a schedule,” said Maruska. “If you are a student and have scheduled classes, we will give you hours when you are available.”

These job opportunities provide federal benefits such as healthcare, dental and vision care, and educational opportunities.
