WHITE SANDS MISSILE RANGE, N.M. (September 15, 2022) Garrett Lambert, Director of The Research and Analysis Center (TRAC), was the guest speaker for this month’s Test and Evaluation Analysis (TEA) Talk at the Professional Development center.
Lambert presented "Reflections on Leadership," to the White Sands Missile Range (WSMR) community. He spoke about how people are born, and leaders are made through important actions and attributes they develop and practice in work and life. “All of us have different opportunities and the ability to have an impact on our communities, workplace, and families. Our country needs that, our organizations need that, our Army needs that,” Lamber said.
Lambert focused on the following actions influential leaders take:
- Building the right culture: starting with why your team does the work that it does.
- Create a team of teams: creating a shared consciousness and empowering your team to make independent decisions.
- Communicate: create connection with your team beyond projects and work deliverables.
- Learn outside your lane: educating yourself on topics outside of your discipline.
He also highlighted the following attributes those leaders develop and possess:
- Credibility: formed from a combination of proven competence, integrity, and relationships.
- Humility: taking ownership of your mistakes and honoring others’ good work.
- Will: possessing the strength and persistence to keep moving forward.
Lambert ended the talk with a quote from Aristotle; “We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, therefore, is not an act but a habit.”
