The Blue Star Program

The Columbus Area and Valley Partnership Chambers of Commerce have secured the participation of hundreds of commercial entities that offer significant discounts to Families of deployed service members. This included Callaway Gardens, Coca-Cola Space Science Center, the Columbus Museum, the Little White House, and the Port Columbus Civil War Naval Museum.

Columbus Fisher House

Combined professional associations raised $75,000 in 2007 and $156,000 in 2008 for the Columbus Fisher House in support of Soldiers and their Families during their time of need by providing "a home away from home" that enables family members to be close to a loved one at the most stressful time -- during hospitalization for an illness, disease or injury.

Columbus Military Affairs Committee

Provides support for various events and activities throughout the year (Unit Welcome Home Events, 4th of July, Soldier and Family Appreciation Days, etc.).

Local YMCA

The local YMCA provides reduced memberships and child care services for the Families of deployed Soldiers.

USO and Red Cross

Local chapters are at Lawson Army Airfield's Air Terminal for every flight of deploying and redeploying Soldiers providing the Soldiers snacks and sundry items and well-wishes and welcome homes.

Military Appreciation Days

To show their appreciation for the military, the Columbus Catfish invite Soldiers to attend a professional minor league baseball game with reserved seating each year. Also, the same appreciation is extended by the Columbus Cottonmouths (professional minor league ice hockey game) and the Columbus War Dogs (professional league indoor arena football game). Over 5000 Soldiers in training attended one or more of these sports events in 2008.
