U.S. Army provides update to wildland fire at Makua (Update #3)

WHEELER ARMY AIRFIELD, Hawaii —As of 6 p.m., approximately 180 acres have burned and the fire is approximately 75% contained at Makua Military Reservation. Army assets committed to the fight include:

  • Six Fire Fighters from Schofield Barracks
  • Two fire engines
  • One UH-60 Blackhawk from the 25th Combat Aviation Brigade

Army aviation support has dropped more than 120 buckets of water on the fire totaling more than 72,000 gallons of water.

Residents and motorists near Makua Military Reservation may see smoke in the sky, but there is no threat to nearby facilities or people at this time. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
