The Fort Knox Directorate of Emergency Services revealed its newest crime fighting tool, “K9 Willie”. K9 Willie was introduced to the Fort Knox community during its annual Independence Day celebration at Brooks Field July 4.

The name Willie was chosen for the mascot in honor of General Patton’s beloved dog. General Patton’s constant companion Willie was a Bull Terrier named after William the Conqueror, and was said to have followed the General everywhere as a loyal friend until the end.

“I wanted a mascot that was unique to Fort Knox,” stated Police Chief Jason Doughty, “and I believe the connection to General Patton gives us that unique characteristic.”

K9 Willie will be used as a community outreach tool to build relationships with the Fort Knox community.

Keep an eye out for K9 Willie at upcoming community events.
