JOINT BASE SAN ANTONIO-FORT SAM HOUSTON, Texas - Having the right people in the right place at the right time is vital to organizational success. In the 2020 Army People Strategy states, “With the right people, in the right place, at the right time, our Total Army will successfully deploy, fight, and win in multi-domain operations (MDO) and excel in support of the Joint Force.”

The Military Healthcare System identified a shortage of trained and experienced clinician staff officers who can develop, plan, coordinate, and execute strategic level activities, events, and policies.

One way that Army Medicine is closing the gap is through the Army Medical Department’s Long Term Health and Training program. The LTHET provides opportunities for medical professionals that enhance leader development and optimize career progression.

This year the Army Nurse Corps increased the number of ANC executive fellowship positions from two to three. The fellows will learn and gain valuable experience by conducting various tasks, thereby supporting leader development, the ANC, and the U.S. Army Medical Department.

While two executive fellows are assigned to the office of the Chief of the Army Nurse Corps the new fellow position is operationally focused on operational design and force modernization.

Maj. Kristine Lee was selected as the first Army Nurse Corps Executive Fellow assigned to the Medical Capability Development Integration Directorate.

Lee will serve within MED CDID and spend the next year working within the different divisions supporting all phases of key initiatives in support of identified gaps and Integrated Priority Lists. This assignment will provide Lee and subsequent fellows insight into the Army Health System’s capability development activities. This assignment supports Army modernization efforts to meet the needs of the future force.

Col. James Jones, MED CDID director, explained the importance of the relationship between ANC and MED CDID. "Major Lee is an extremely gifted and talented officer that will thrive in capability development and lead key integration efforts for the entire Army Health System. The Army Nurse Corps is setting the standard by initiating a key leader development executive fellow program that will ensure Army Health System has experienced senior medical personnel to lead force modernization efforts to support Large Scale Combat Operations.”

Lee will be assigned to the Integration Division, which integrates and synchronizes capability development activities of the AHS across the Army Modernization Enterprise to ensure holistic, standardized, and integrated capabilities are fielded into the Army. The Integration Division includes Army Capability Managers serving as the User Representative for Soldiers and organizations for the 10 Medical Functional areas. ACMs interface and collaborate with stakeholders to include materiel developers (program managers), other ACMs, and Medical Force modernization organizations to identify, develop, field, and assess holistic solutions across the elements of Doctrine, Organization, Training, Materiel, Leadership, and Education, Personnel, Facilities, and Policy (DOTMLPF-P).

"I'm honored to have this incredible opportunity to learn and expand my knowledge in force management and capability development,” said Lee.

Prior to this assignment, Lee served in various clinical and operational leadership roles. This wealth of experience makes her the perfect fit for this assignment and will bridge the relationship between the ANC and MED CDID.
