Fort Knox, Kentucky – Fort Knox leaders named two Hardin County community members as “Gold Neighbors” at the installation’s Community Partnership Dinner last night.
Retired Maj. Gen. (Ret.) Bill Barron and Dick Ardisson received the honor, which is bestowed annually to select individuals of the greater Fort Knox region who have distinguished themselves through their support to Fort Knox and its Soldiers and Families.

Barron dedicated 15 years following his military service to establishing grassroots campaigns, building and leading coalitions and working with elected and military leadership to promote awareness of the installation’s capabilities. Fort Knox is now a multi-command Army post that fulfills in an increased role in supporting national defense priorities. He also served for 14 years as the CORE Committee executive director, a regional alliance focused on improving public and private interests related to Fort Knox. This organization transformed into what is now called the Knox Regional Development Alliance.

Ardisson has supported the greater Fort Knox community over the last 20 years through several civic, military, academic, charitable and youth-oriented organizations. Of particular note, through his volunteer service with a local credit union, he helped ensure members of the Fort Knox community had a full suite of financial advice, assistance, programs and service available to them.
Barron and Ardisson join these other community leaders as Gold Neighbors: Carl, Anne, Bob and Jan Swope as well as the late Bill and Betty Swope; Barbara and her late husband Ronnie; Blake Proffitt; Charlie Thurman and his late wife Claudia; Erika and Gene Gudenkauf; Greg Milby; Hollie Sexton; Randy Acton; Charlotte Masterson; Dr. James Ramsey; Nannette Johnston; Brad Richardson; Carl Cornelius; Carole Logsdon; Kendra Stewart Scott; Bill Evans and Dr. Jillian Carden.
