Command Sgt. Maj. Michael D. Sanchez assumed responsibility as the new Fort Benning garrison command sergeant major during a change of responsibility ceremony today.
“I am truly honored and blessed to be serving in one of the most challenging positions within Fort Benning,” said Sanchez. “Never in my wildest dreams did I ever think I would have the opportunity to support Soldiers and Families in such a rewarding way.”
Sanchez’s previous assignment was serving as the Senior Enlisted Observer Coach/Trainer Task Force Command Sergeant Major, Joint Multinational Readiness Center Operations Group, Hohenfels, Germany.
Sanchez noted what his focus will be as the garrison command sergeant major. “I look forward to working alongside the leaders, civilians and families here in the Chattahoochee Valley region; as we enable the readiness of future Soldiers and reach for the next level of excellence together.”
Sanchez assumed responsibility from Command Sgt. Maj. Brett W. Johnson, whose new assignment will be as the Regimental Command Sergeant Major, 75th Ranger Regiment, also located at Fort Benning.
“It has been an honor of a lifetime to serve the Fort Benning community for the past two years,” said Johnson. “I am thankful to the Maneuver Center of Excellence, the brigade command teams and the garrison for such amazing partnership and teamwork.”
Johnson also highlighted the value Sanchez will bring to Fort Benning and the importance of people.
“CSM Mike Sanchez is the perfect senior enlisted leader to lead the garrison and I am excited for him and his family,” said Johnson. “The fabric of our service culture lies within our people, as they truly are our business.”
