ABERDEEN PROVING GROUND, Md. - The U.S. Army Communications-Electronics Command celebrated its 41st birthday with a 5K “Fun Run” and cake cutting ceremony on the C5ISR campus May 26.

This internal CECOM celebration promoted team building, fellowship and recognized the 41 years of the command. There were approximately 25 runners and walkers, including Maj. Gen. Robert Edmonson, commanding general for CECOM and APG senior commander; CECOM Command Sgt. Maj. Kristie Brady; and other CECOM employees and their families.

Edmonson thanked everyone for coming out for the second ever CECOM “Fun Run.”

“You are an awesome team that does a lot of wonderful work day after day,” Edmonson said. “Now we are going to celebrate year after year. It’s been 41 years that CECOM has been around and each of you is a crucial part of that.”

Edmonson said that he “wholeheartedly believes” in the importance of both physical and mental health. May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and he said that mental and physical health go hand-in-hand.

“What better way to celebrate the importance of both physical and mental health than with a brisk morning run?” Edmonson said.

CECOM may have officially formed in 1981 but it has a “rich history,” said Edmonson.

From 1917, with the birth of the Signal Corps and the early beginnings of CECOM at Fort Monmouth, New Jersey, to the establishment of the Electronics Command, or ECOM, in 1962, the advancements in technology, radios, satellites, computers, networks and medical technology have allowed the warfighter to accomplish their missions faster and more efficiently throughout the years.

“I’m proud to be a part of this organization,” Edmonson said. “Each of you is making a difference.”

Edmonson and Brady cut into CECOM’s birthday cake and sang ‘happy birthday.’

“Happy birthday to CECOM and to all of you,” said Brady. “We are so grateful for what you do.”
