Class will be a “HIIT” this month as Redstone’s MWR hosts the annual Strong BANDS program.
“May is always a fun and exciting month for us,” Gaylene Wilson, Recreation Division chief, said. “Redstone Arsenal has been participating in the Armywide Strong BANDS Campaign for many years.
“The fitness staff has prepared some great events and we have some awesome instructors coming back.”
Through a series of events in May, BANDS (Balance, Activity, Nutrition, Determination and Strength) aims to promote healthy and active lifestyles for Army communities.
“We are thrilled to be back with in-person programs,” Wilson said. “Over the past two years, we switched to more virtual programs due to COVID.”
The High Intensity Interval Training Class starts off the campaign and it wraps up with a longest pull-up challenge May 24, a competition for holding the longest pull-up with a prize for the male and female winners.
The dates of the STRONG B.A.N.D.S. events are:
· May 11: HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) class at Pagano Gym from 11:15 a.m. to noon;
· May 18: Zumba at Pagano Gym from 5:30-6:15 a.m.;
· May 19: Fitness Challenge at Vincent Park, 6-8 a.m.;
· May 24: Hanging Out with Strong B.A.N.D.S. 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Also during the month, those who check out any item related to health, fitness and nutrition from the Redstone MWR Library will receive a Strong BANDS bracelet.
For information, call Pagano Gym at 876-6701 and the Col. Stephen K. Scott Fitness Center (for the pull-up challenge) at 955-7508.
“We are looking forward to seeing Team Redstone there,” Wilson said. “We have some prizes in store.”
