The pilots and crews from Detachment 1, B Company 3rd Battalion 126th Aviation, provided skydiving platforms for the West Point parachute teams annual training sessions. The West Point Parachute Team is made up of cadet members. The Cadets join the team during their plebe year and train with coaches from the Military Academies Department of Military Instruction. The team competes at national and college events, provides demonstrations, and jumps the game ball into Mitchie Stadium for Army football home games. Members of the team who are still training wear gold jumpsuits until they are qualified. The New York Army National Guard pilots used the training opportunity to hone their skills in the kind of high altitude helicopter flying required to operate in the mountains of Afghanistan.
