NATICK, MA. -- A ribbon cutting ceremony was held to officially open Natick Soldier Systems Center’s housing on April 20.

Approximately 90 Soldiers, civilians, and Families along with community leaders were on hand to witness the unveiling of the 28 housing units, 24 at Heritage Lane across from the Installation and four on the corner of General Greene Ave.

"Quality military housing is vital to the success of the military family, and more importantly fulfills a basic human need,” said Command Sgt. Major Thomas Roldan, from the U.S. Army Garrison - Natick. " The strength of the Army is its Soldiers, and the strength of our Soldiers is their Families; and our Families deserve quality homes. A house is simply a structure, but a home is the foundational place where a family flourishes and lives up to their full potential."

The three- and four-bedroom homes that line the lane with taupe, gray and yellow exteriors come equipped with energy efficient appliances, spacious layouts and newly manicured lawns. The community features a new basketball court, a play yard and walking trails in the area.

"These are state-of-the-art homes and as you go through them, I know you will be impressed," said Brig. Gen. David Trybula, Senior Commander, Natick Soldier Systems Center. "More importantly they will serve the Natick Soldier Systems Center community for generations to come and will really help our Families build a sense of community here."

The completion of the housing community comes at a great time for the military members stationed here as the Installation has a number of improvement initiatives underway including the S2PRINT (please spell out) building and barracks renovations. .

“Our housing units provide new quality homes to those who support our dedicated and talented Armed Forces,” said Roldan. “I am extremely excited about the opportunity to grow our community, and with the addition of these 28 housing units, grow our future. Natick’s future continues to be bright, and this ceremony is a recognition of an investment in our community and an acknowledgement that people are our priority.”

The ribbon cutting was followed by an open house reception where everyone in attendance was invited to tour the facility.

The most popular aspect of the event was the playground which was full of laughing children long after all the ceremony's guest departed.

Natick Soldier Systems Center broke ground on the 28 new homes in 2019 and construction was completed this earlier this year.

The Natick Soldier Systems Center mission is “One Team advancing innovative technology for Today and Tomorrow.” As the only active-duty Army Installation in New England, the NSSC’s focus is to enhance, empower, and enable the Joint Warfighter from all branches of the DoD as well as the Coast Guard. NSSC is home to a number of premiere and unique facilities that support the research, development, and engineering to sustain current Warfighter systems and develop future systems. Known as the Army’s center for Soldier-related research and development, NSSC’s greatest asset and top priority is our people – expert military and civilian personnel that come from all six New England states, many of whom hold graduate or higher-level degrees in more than 70 disciplines.
