FORT KNOX, Ky. – Patrons of two physical fitness centers at Fort Knox are starting to see some new additions to their equipment options for workouts.

As part of a bulk buy program designed to keep Army gyms both up-to-date and consistent across all installations, both Gammon and Natcher PFCs is receiving several pieces of new equipment. The Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation’s director of Sports, Fitness and Aquatics, Austin Howell, said some of the equipment has already begun to arrive.

“We have received 11 new bikes and two self-powered treadmills already,” said Howell.

Howell said he was first notified about the additional equipment order in September 2021. He said it consisted of both stand-alone cardio equipment and new lifting stations.

“The strength equipment was supposed to arrive in December, but there have been shipping delays due to the platform material,” said Howell. “We face the same shipping issue that other installations are facing.”

The lifting stations, which will include weight plates, a multi-adjustable bench, Olympic weight bar, rack and other strength equipment, are something Howell said he’s excited to get installed.

“Once we receive the equipment,” said Howell, “both Gammon and Natcher will have much needed updated strength equipment in their facilities.”

Howell said the lifting stations might look familiar to some Fort Knox gym patrons – they are identical to the ones installed at Smith Fitness Center in July 2020. After all the new equipment is in place, he said gym patrons will have a multitude of options to access the latest fitness products.

“Gammon is receiving four new lifting stations and Natcher is receiving three,” said Howell.

According to Howell, the remaining items will be here soon.

“Hopefully the strength equipment arrives in the next couple of weeks,” said Howell. “Fingers crossed.”
