USAG Yongsan-Casey, Republic of Korea [January 14, 2022] – Spc. Donovan Lynch, a U.S. Army Garrison Yongsan-Casey multimedia illustrator won this year’s Installation Management Command-Pacific’s Soldier of the year competition.

Stationed at the historic Yongsan Army base, Lynch represented the U.S. Army Garrison Yongsan-Casey. This tour was his first duty station since enlisting and his graduation from Sacramento State University.

“I enlisted for a few reasons, to become the best possible version of myself, out of patriotism, and because nearly everyone I look up to and who is doing well served or is still serving.”

Travel to an entirely new country and culture was another big draw for enlisting in the Army.

“The Army doesn’t let me shy away from challenges. I have to face them head on,” he said. “When I think of the U.S., I think of home. Giving a small part of my life contributing to its defense is something I’ll be proud of for the rest of my life.”

Competing for the Soldier of the Year competition requires the Soldiers to study Army history and Soldier challenge questions, write three essays and learn Army regulations.

“For me winning meant I would be sent to another board,” he said. “It also meant I am far more capable than I give myself credit for. I can do big things with the right attitude and determination.”

Case in point, Donovan Lynch, the IMCOM-P Soldier of the year and Soldier at the Headquarters and Headquarters Company at Yongsan is clearly aiming high and a leader to watch!

Lynch is changing duty station this week. He’s headed to Hohenfels, Germany. The USAG Yongsan Casey team will miss him.
