DETROIT ARSENAL, Mich. — Over the past two years, the Detroit Arsenal Army Community Service professionals have focused their efforts on improving readiness and resiliency for Soldiers, Department of Army Civilians and their Families through the “New Year, New You” program.

New Year, New You is a collaboration between the Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation office, the Commander’s Readiness and Resiliency Council, Army Substance Abuse, Sexual Harassment/Assault Response and Prevention program, US Army Tank-automotive and Armaments Command Headquarters and Headquarters Company and Military One Source.

According to Pandora Brown, ACS Family Advocacy program manager, the focus of “New Year, New You” is prevention and education which is part of the overall FAP mission.

“When our workforce, and their families are healthy, happy and resilient, the Soldier or civilian can focus on the mission at hand,” said Brown.

The program addresses the ‘whole person’ concept, to include mind, body, and spirit. If Brown’s team is unable to help with information on any topics, they refer the individual to local area organizations that can help.

Brown acknowledges that over the past two years since the program started families have been subjected to unique challenges that impact their lives. ACS has attempted to adapt to these challenges by offering the “New Year, New You” classes virtually so individuals can stay safe during the pandemic and still stay connected.

“We are focused on providing tools to the Army professional that will help them face these adversities,” said Brown.

“We have also taken steps to support the health and safety of the arsenal workforce and their families to help them overcome personal and work-related stresses and maintain their mental and physical health.”

Throughout January, the New Year, New You classes will focus on children. Detroit Arsenal teammates interested in any of the “New Year, New You” workshops can sign up in TED.
