The current unemployment rate for active duty military spouses sits at more than 20 percent with some studies suggesting that it may climb even higher in the near term. The Secretary of the Army Christine Wormuth has made military spouse and transitioning service member employment one of the Army's major quality of life priorities.

Fort George G. Meade, Fort Meade's home, Anne Arundel County and neighboring Howard County signed a memorandum of agreement Tuesday (Dec. 7) to provide workforce services to active duty spouses, transitioning service members and veterans at Fort Meade.

The agreement formalizes a partnership that will see the Anne Arundel Workforce Development Corporation (AAWDC) and Howard County Workforce Development (HCOWD)provide services that include job search skills, assistance with obtaining professional credentials and job connections.

Additionally, the agreement will work to help Fort Meade fill hard to fill positions such as childcare workers, gate guards and engineers with job seekers in Anne Arundel and Howard Counties. The AAWDC and HCOWD will have a joint career coach located at Fort Meade to begin providing those services.
