FORT BENNING, GA – Family members, students, and cadre came together at WHINSEC on November 30 to deliver toy donations collected at the Institute.

The event organized by the WHINSEC Chaplain, Maj. Jorge H. Budez. Volunteers formed up at 6:30 a.m. in front of the Institute and walked 2.5 miles to Ft Benning Santa’s Castle, located on 7120 Pecom Row Bldg 1710 on Fort Benning. Participants delivered donations previously collected at WHINSEC and those brought by them to Santa’s Castle representatives.

“Great participation from the WHINSEC family. We donated 184 toys and was an opportunity to support military families in Fort Benning while creating a sense of gratitude in our Soldiers and family members,” said Budez.

Headquarters and Headquarters personnel were on hand, assisting on the efforts. Capt. Derrick C. Barcliff Jr., HHC commander, had this to add.

“It was a joyful walk and a collective effort by WHINSEC personnel and Family members; many little contributions make a huge impact and will put smiles on the faces of 184 in children,” said Barcliff.

Amongst the participants, experiencing for the first time the 29-degree weather was Costa Rican Police Commander and WHINSEC Partner Nation Instructor Juan Pablo Calvo Cuadra.

He commented about the event.

“Today a facet of the human being has been demonstrated which reflects and consolidates the WHINSEC family spirit. This small gesture of immense human value in the activity of gifts to those less fortunate through Santa’s Castle and goes with the Army Values of Respect and Selfless Service. Hands that give are never empty. I am proud to be a part of WHINSEC.”
