WASHINGTON -- Secretary of the Army Christine Wormuth recently redesignated the Office of the Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Army for Acquisition Policy and Logistics to the Office of the Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Army for Sustainment effective Nov. 3, 2021.
Over the past decade, the Assistant Secretary of the Army for Acquisition, Logistics and Technology (ASA(ALT)) has been consolidating critical sustainment oversight and policy functions within the DASA for APL, whose mission focus has expanded from logistics to product support, operational sustainment reviews, program protection strategies, industrial base utilization, corrosion prevention and supply chain risk management.
The redesignation to DASA for Sustainment is a culmination of these consolidation efforts to address the critical nature of sustainment considerations on the Army’s acquisition decisions. The DASA for Sustainment will assist the ASA(ALT) to ensure that sustainment considerations receive appropriate emphasis in all phases of the Army’s acquisition process.
The Army recognizes that early planning for sustainment during development improves readiness and equipment reliability. The creation of a DASA for Sustainment signals the Army’s renewed commitment to providing sustainable equipment to Army forces.
