Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) and U.S. Army Pacific announced today their participation in the Bersama Warrior 2021 STAFFEX exercise to be held virtually in Hawaii, Washington state, and Malaysia from Nov. 10-23, 2021.

Bersama Warrior is an annual, bilateral joint exercise sponsored by U.S. Indo-Pacific Command and hosted by the Malaysian Armed Forces. This year marks the 7th iteration of the exercise and contributes to enhancing U.S. and Malaysian defense readiness, interoperability, and strengthening the State Partner Program relationships between the Malaysian Armed Forces and Washington National Guard. This year, the 5th SFAB will also participate as well.

Approximately 72 U.S. personnel will participate in this year’s virtual staff exercise, consisting of operational and tactical staff planners.

The STAFFEX will challenge personnel with planning and coordinating several missions using the military decision-making process and Multi-National Forces standard operating procedures and will build the foundation toward future bilateral training opportunities with the MAF and U.S. Armed Forces. The planning and training will be focused on developing capacity to quickly respond to crisis with greater interoperability, mission effectiveness, and unity of action between the Malaysian Armed Forces and U.S. Armed Forces.

The Bersama Warrior 2021 STAFFEX provides the venue for the exchange of tactics, techniques and procedures for peace support operations with an emphasis on counter-terrorism and humanitarian assistance and simultaneously demonstrating U.S. resolve to support the security interests of allies and partners in the Indo-Pacific region.
