REDSTONE ARSENAL - PS Magazine is proud to announce that Staff Sgt. Andrew French, 718th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron, Kadena Air Base, Japan, became the magazine’s first-ever Air Force nominee for its “I Own This” campaign.

The IOT campaign is designed to recognize warfighters of all services who exemplify the highest standards of care for their assigned vehicles and equipment, and contribute in meaningful ways to their unit's overall maintenance and supply posture. In short, they live and breathe readiness. It’s run on a monthly basis, starting and ending each calendar month.

French’s direct supervisor, Tech Sgt. Daniel Morgan, nominated him for his “dedication to his aircraft,” an HH-60G Pave Hawk.

“If anyone in our unit says the term ‘Pride of the Fleet,’ they’re undoubtedly referencing Staff Sgt. French’s aircraft,” Morgan said.

The IOT campaign started as a feature of PS Magazine in June 2020 and initially focused on Army units and Soldiers. In November of that year, the campaign received its first Marine Corps nomination. The Navy followed with its first nomination in February 2021. Although PS Magazine is an Army publication, the other services have found benefit in reading the magazine as they share — to varying degrees — common fleets of vehicles and equipment.

Typically, one warfighter is chosen at random to be spotlighted for the month in which they were nominated. With two nominees in September, PS opted to spotlight both. However, all nominees’ names and the reasons for their nomination are always included in each month’s feature IOT article.

The other September 2021 nominee was Chief Warrant Officer (CW5) Benjamin Burnett, Joint Force Headquarters, California National Guard. Burnett created an application called “Mobile Soldier” that provides maintainers and Soldiers with information on such tasks as drivers training, work orders, preventive maintenance checks and services, sample reports and more.

PS Magazine is the Army’s only official publication dedicated to providing Soldiers and warfighters essential information on maintenance and supply procedures, designed to keep their vehicles and equipment fully mission capable and combat ready. Founded in June 1951, it’s celebrating its 70th anniversary. For most of those 70 years, it was published as a roughly 60-page, cartoon-illustrated, monthly magazine, first in print and then delivered electronically. In 2019, it evolved into a fully-online publication, which is continuously updated with new content. To learn more, go to www.psmagazine.army.mil.
