FORT LEAVENWORTH, Kan.--Dr. Mahir Ibrahimov, Director of the CGSC Cultural and Area Studies Office (CASO), travelled to Rome the week of 7-10 Sep 21 where he participated in a NATO and Partnership for Peace funded conference on the South Caucasus region.

Dr. Ibrahimov leveraged his personal experiences in the Caucasus region with his extensive academic studies to provide presentations as a key note speaker. His inputs to the conference had such significant impact on US partner policy discussions that the consortium of states at the conference asked Dr. Ibrahimov to return at a future date to assist in security policy development and review.

This recognition falls on the heels of his recent publication of his autobiography, "Across Cultures and Empires: An Immigrant's Odyssey from the Soviet Army to the US War in Iraq and American Citizenship" by the University of Kansas Press.

Dr. Ibrahimov presented the CASO panel, "Great Power Competition in the Indo-Pacific: Is Conflict Imminent?" on 30 September to start off the official CGSC faculty development and training on the Indo-Pacific region.
