FORT KNOX, Ky. – Fort Knox’s annual Retiree Appreciation Day event will take place on Oct. 15

Retiree Appreciation Day provides an opportunity for retired military and their dependents to learn about what’s new at Fort Knox and receive vaccinations, renew identification cards, and discuss legal and medical concerns with post experts.

Due to the recent increases in COVID-19, this year’s event will take place at several locations across the installation to help facilitate social distancing.

The Sadowski Center will be open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and will host numerous different post agencies and local organizations. Additionally, Fort Knox Retiree Council members will be on site and available to talk with attendees, as well as Staff Judge Advocate representatives to help obtain living wills and powers of attorney.

Transition Services Brach chief Christina Zeitz said attendees will be able to enjoy both what’s inside and outside at Sadowski.

“This year’s event features approximately 28 booths offering information and giveaways from installation and independent organizations,” said Zeitz. “A Bluegrass Meats & Catering food truck will also be on site.”

In addition to the many vendors at Sadowski Center, there will also be vaccines available at the McGinnis Complex in building 1747 located on Famous 4th Division Road. If available, flu vaccines will be administered for attendees ages 18-65. COVID-19 vaccines will also be available for those who have not yet received them.

There will be a question and answer session with Ireland Army Health Clinic Commander Col. Caryn Vernon and Command Sgt. Maj. Johnnathan Quaye at McGinnis from 9 to 9:30 a.m.

Walk-in appointments will be available at White Hall, located in building 1384, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. and again from 1 to 3:30 p.m. for retirees and Family members who need new ID cards.

Garrison Command Sgt. Maj. William Fogle will host a cake cutting at 12:15 p.m. at the Fort Knox Commissary, where visitors will be welcome to enjoy a slice of cake in honor of retirees.

To close the day’s events there will be refreshments and a balloon drop from 3 to 3:30 p.m. at the Main Post Exchange.

Masks are required, regardless of vaccination status, inside all buildings at Fort Knox. Attendees are encouraged to practice social distance while at all Retiree Appreciation Day events. Wheelchairs will be available at all locations if required.
