JSU professor slated to speak at Women’s Equality Luncheon

Dr. Maureen Newton is scheduled to speak at Anniston Army Depot’s Women’s Equality Day Luncheon on Aug. 18 at the Berman-Varner House. Newton, the professor and Dean of the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences at Jacksonville State University, began her career at JSU in 1999 as an assistant professor in the social work program.

Prior to joining JSU, she was a practicing social worker in East Tennessee, with experience in substance abuse, health care, aging, rural social work, and HIV/AIDS.

She received her undergraduate degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, master’s from Florida State University, and a doctorate in social work from the University of Tennessee.

Licensed in Tennessee as a clinical social worker and in Alabama as a licensed independent clinical social worker, she oversees social work, criminal justice and forensic investigation, psychology, emergency management, political science, public administration, and ROTC/Military Science at JSU.
