Col. Miller was commissioned as an Air Defense Artillery officer through ROTC at Rhodes College (Memphis TN) in 2002. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in biology from Rhodes College, Master of Arts in leadership studies from the University of Texas at El Paso, and a Master of Arts in Strategic Studies from the Army War College.
His military schooling includes the Air Defense Artillery Officer’s Basic Course, the Air Defense Artillery Officer’s Advanced Course, the Army Command and General Staff College, the Security Assistance Management Course, the Joint Firepower Controllers Course, the Red Team Member’s Course, the Joint Combined Warfighting School (JPME 2), the Joint Targeting Course, the Defense Threat Reduction Agency’s Nuclear Weapons Course, the Theater Nuclear Operations Course, the How the Army Runs force managers course, and the United States Army War College. Following commissioning, he served as Bradley Linebacker Platoon Leader and Battery XO, 1st Battalion 44th Air Defense Artillery Regiment, 4th Infantry Division (Mech) Fort Hood, TX; Battalion S-1 and Battery commander, Echo Battery (SHORAD), 1st Air and Missile Defense Battalion, 44th ADA Regiment, fort Bliss, TX; Maneuver Company Observer/Controller and Battalion S3 Observer/Controller, Joint Multinational Readiness Center Hohenfels, Germany; Battalion S3 and Executive Officer, 2nd Battalion, 44th Air Defense Artillery, Fort Campbell, KY; Pacific regional plans officer (current and future) Operations and Plans Division of the Global Operations Directorate (J-3), United States Strategic Command (STRATCOM) Offutt AFB NE; Battalion Commander Headquarters and Headquarters Battalion (HHBN) 1st Armor Division at Fort Bliss, TX; Air and Missile Defense chief, Force Development directorate, HQDA G-8, Pentagon; and is currently serving as the Chief of Staff for 94th AAMDC.
Col. Miller’s awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal (2OLC), the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal (4OLC), the Army Commendation Medal, the Joint Service Achievement Medal, the Army Achievement Medal (1OLC), the National Dense Service Medal, the Afghanistan Campaign Medal, the Iraqi Campaign Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the NATO Medal, the Joint Meritorious Unit Award, the Valorous Unit Award, the Meritorious Unit Award, and the Army Superior Unit Award. Lt. Col. Miller is also authorized the Combat Action Badge, the Pathfinder’s Badge, the Air Assault Badge, the Parachutist Badge, and the Army Staff Identification Badge.
Col. Miller is married to the former Kimberly Anne McHale of Atascadero, CA and they have three children: Michaela, Grayson, and Adele.
