Col. Matthew W. Dalton

Col. Matt Dalton, a native of Portland, Connecticut, graduated from Norwich University in Northfield, Vermont in 1996 as an ROTC graduate and commissioned into the Air Defense Artillery. He is married to Bree, a native of Brooklyn, New York; they have four daughters, Kayla, Abigail, Jane, and Natalie.

Col. Dalton’s education includes a Master of Arts (MA) in National Security and Strategic Studies from Army War College and Naval War College, a MA in Leadership from the University of Texas, El Paso, and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Norwich University. His military education includes Air Defense Artillery Officer Basic Course, Joint Firepower Control Course, Air Defense Artillery Officer Advanced Course, Combined Arms and Services Staff School, Advanced Military Transition Team, Naval War College, Command and Staff, Joint and Combined Warfighting School, and Army War College.

Col. Dalton’s assignments include platoon leader and fire support officer with 2nd Squadron, 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment, commander of Battery A, 5th Battalion, 5th Air Defense Artillery Regiment at Camp Casey, Republic of Korea, Captain’s Career Course chief and instructor, Headquarters and Headquarters Battery, 6th Air Defense Artillery Brigade. Col. Dalton deployed to Baghdad, Iraq where he served as S3/executive officer advisor for the Military Transition Team, Multi-National Corps, Iraq, battalion S3 of 1st Battalion, 43rd Air Defense Artillery Regiment, deploying to Qatar/Kuwait, and brigade S3 for 11th Air Defense Artillery Brigade.

After graduating from the Naval War College, Col. Dalton served at the Defense Intelligence Agency, in Washington, D.C., as a Libya analyst, Chief of North/West Africa Branch, Chief, Iraq/Syria Crisis Branch, and finally as Division Chief, Iran Division, Middle East/Africa Regional Center. He commanded the 3rd Battalion, 2nd Air Defense Artillery Regiment at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, deploying to the United Arab Emirates and Jordan. Upon graduating from the Army War College, Col. Dalton served as the G3 for 94th Army Air and Missile Defense Command at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, Hawaii, and then commanded the 38th ADA brigade, headquartered at Sagami General Depot, Japan.

Col. Dalton deployed in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM, Operation ENDURING FREEDOM, and Operation INHERENT RESOLVE/SPARTAN SHIELD.

Col. Dalton’s awards and decorations include the Legion of Merit (OLC), Bronze Star Medal (OLC), Purple Heart, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (5 OLC), Army Commendation Medal (OLC), Air Force Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal (3 OLC), Iraqi Campaign Medal, Global War on Terror Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terror Service Medal, Korea Defense Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal, Combat Action Badge, and Basic Parachute Badge.
