The Army Contracting Command held its 2021 Best Warrior Competition virtual board on April 27 with six competitors from around the globe. Staff Sgt. Douglass Staub from the 921st Contracting Battalion, 413th Contracting Support Brigade, was named the winner. Staff Sgt. Frank Gomes from the 923rd Contracting Battalion, 418th Contracting Support Brigade, was the first runner-up. Both Soldiers will compete and represent ACC in the Army Material Command BWC in July 2021.

Staub is a Peoria, Ariz., native. He enlisted into the U. S. Army in 2011 as a signal collector analyst and was assessed into the Army Acquisition Corps in 2020. He has deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Freedom Sentinel. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice and a Master’s Degree in Legal Studies from Arizona State University.

Staub says he is most grateful to have the chance to represent the 921st CBn and the 413th CSB in the competition.

“It felt great to know that the hard work that I put into it paid off. I had a great support system of NCOs [non-commissioned officers] that wanted to see me succeed. They provided me the time and resources in order to be successful,” said Staub.

Master Sgt. Armando J. Torres, ACC G3/5/7 Sgt. Maj., who assisted in the coordination for the event, said that all of the competitors were outstanding representatives of ACC and contracting Soldiers in general.

“SSG Staub along with all the competitors from this year’s Army Contracting Command Best Warrior Competition represents the future of our profession. Their knowledge and professionalism exudes excellence and I feel confident that their endeavors as contracting professionals will be great for ACC,” said Torres.

The winners of the AMC Best Warrior Competition in July will go on to compete at the 2021 Army Best Warrior Competition in the fall against Soldiers and NCOs from locations and commands throughout the world.
