FORT CARSON, Colo. — The Fort Carson Directorate of Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation is ready to resume fitness and Family orientated activities after the year-long pause due to COVID-19.

Mike O’Donnell, director, DFMWR, said the directorate is ready to begin hosting programs again for the post community.

“It’s been a long 12 months dealing with all (COVID-19) protocols, and I would like to encourage everyone to come back out and utilize our programs through DFMWR,” O’Donnell said. “We are opening back up, and we are following all the protocols we are receiving from the (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention). I promise you that we have safe and great Family entertainment, and we really look forward to seeing you out again.”

Garcia Fitness Center held its annual Lift-a-Thon summer lifting series May 1, 2021, at 9 a.m. with a slight change from previous years, according to Dave Falls, manager, Garcia Fitness Center.

In previous years, the lifting series was held over a three-month period, usually June, July and August featuring three events. Those events included the deadlift, clean-lift and bench press competition. This year, according to Falls, the event was held on one day May 1, 2021, and was the prelude to the Strong Soldier Competition scheduled for October.

In addition to the lifting competition May 1, 2021, there is a strong bands story walk at the outdoor track near Wetzel and Specker avenues scheduled for May 13 and May 27, 2021, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. hosted by Grant Library. There will also be a Memorial Day March May 29 at UC Health Park in Colorado Springs. People can choose to participate in a 5K, 10K or 30K run or ruck, visit https://www.memorialdaymarch.com for more information and requirements. According to officials, all participants will receive swag for finishing.

The intramural softball season was scheduled to begin May 5, 2021, and is slated to run Tuesday and Thursday evenings beginning at 8:30 p.m. each night at the Mountain Post Softball Complex.
