FORT LEONARD WOOD, Mo. — On May 7, the Friday before Mother’s Day, we will celebrate Military Spouse Appreciation Day. Military service is a team effort amongst our families, and the support of military spouses is critical to mission success. The courageous husbands and wives of our service members stand as the backbone of our military families, and we are forever indebted to their sacrifices.

Military spouses display unwavering commitment through deployments, numerous PCS moves, and the uncertainties of military life. Spouses invest their time and effort to provide the focus, support, and encouragement that enables their service members to remain ready and to serve successfully across the range of military operations.

Putting People First is an enduring priority. The Army and our team at Fort Leonard Wood are committed to investing in our families in many ways, like improved spousal employment opportunities and quality housing, healthcare, and childcare. The newly opened spouse employment lounge; the hospital under construction; plans for renovations and improved housing units; and the amazing education provided by Waynesville and our surrounding school districts are ways we hope to maintain and improve quality of life for our spouses.

We encourage you to express your steadfast gratitude to husbands and wives who continue to place the needs of our nation, and its service members, above their own, not only on May 7, but each and every day. We are proud to serve with you!
