The Grunts defeated Los Internacionales 12-2 in a softball game Tuesday at Gowdy Field.
Los Internacionales, Western Hemisphere Institute for Security Cooperation, was shut out in the first inning, while the Grunts, Infantry Basic Officer Leaders Course, scored on a Joel Molena RBI single to lead 1-0.
Los Internacionales had a runner reach base in the second inning, but Grunt pitcher Chris Jones recorded the third out before they could score.
The Grunts added runs on the scoreboard in the bottom of the inning with a two-run RBI double from Frank Geitz.
Trailing 3-0, Los Internacionales had a chance to score in the top of the third inning with a runner on third base, but left the runner stranded, while the Grunts increased their lead to 4-0.
The Grunts held Los Internacionales scoreless in the fourth inning, while racking up two runs on an error and a Molena RBI single.
The fifth inning was Los Internacionales' lone scoring inning with a two-run RBI double by Julio Candelario. The Grunts were held scoreless, but still led 6-2.
In the bottom of the sixth, the Grunts scored six runs, sealing the 12-2 victory as the game ended with the hour time limit being reached.
"I think our team played really well," said Grunts coach Dan Anton. "Our bats were coming around and we had a solid defense. Once we got going, the team was motivated to win."
Grunt Andy Miller said his team fought hard and attributed the victory to solid play in aspects of the game.
"We didn't have any major errors and we had good fielding and hitting out there," he said.
