ANNISTON ARMY DEPOT, Ala --Child and Youth Services celebrated multiple holidays and observances throughout April, including Month of the Military Child, Autism Awareness Month, Child Abuse Prevention Month and Earth Day.
These observances gave students in the program an opportunity to learn new and exciting information through interactive projects and activities.
Month of the Military Child, observed every April, highlights the role military children play in the armed forces community. “Our military children sacrifice a lot whether they are a single or dual military family,” said Nyoka Johnson, Child and Youth Services coordinator. “We used this month to highlight their sacrifice and honor them through various fun activities across the Army community. We’ll be closing out the month here with a MOMC Pajama Day.”
To commemorate Week of the Young Child, an observance held April 10-17 that celebrates early learning, young children, their teachers and families, students brought in photos of their families to create large photo collages. These collages are currently featured throughout the center.
Students also spent some time outside planting flowers in their garden as a way to commemorate Earth Day April 22. “When we remodeled our playground, we were excited to add a garden area,” Johnson said. “This garden is tended by the children. They love maintaining it and watching their flowers and plants grow so that was a great way to celebrate Earth Day this year.”
