FORT MONROE, Va. - Six active-duty service members from installations across the U.S. will be competing here next week for the title of U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC) Noncommissioned Officer (NCO) and Soldier of the Year.

The Soldiers are representing the three major commands associated with TRADOC - the Combined Arms Center, U.S. Army Accessions Command and the Combined Arms Support Command. Each candidate has competed and won at lower level competitions conducted within their represented organizations.

The three-day competition here begins at 6 a.m. Monday, July 20, with the Army Physical Fitness Test at Continental Park. Spectators from the Fort Monroe community are encouraged to come out and cheer for the competitors.

Beginning Tuesday, the competitors will be tested on their knowledge of Soldier/Warrior Tasks and Battle Drills at Fort Eustis.

On the last day of competition, each Soldier will appear before a board comprised of first sergeants representing various units within TRADOC.

The competition culminates with an awards luncheon scheduled for 11:30 a.m. Thursday, July 23, at the Fort Monroe Bay Breeze Community Center.

TRADOC NCO and Soldier of the Year winners will represent TRADOC during the Army-wide NCO and Soldier of the Year competition later this fall.
