FORT CARSON, Colo. — Continuing its long history of teaching environmental stewardship, the Fort Carson Directorate of Public Works (DPW) is hosting several activities in observance of both Earth and Arbor Day April 22, 2021.
Earth Day events are accomplished through partnering with several organizations to provide a variety of activities for the community.
The DPW is hosting an Earth Day outreach event at the Exchange April 22, 2021, from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. Earth Day display tables will feature topics, including:
• Cultural resources
• Wildlife in Colorado
• Stormwater
• Wildlife conservation law enforcement
For schoolchildren, Fort Carson is holding an Earth Day-themed art contest for kindergarten through fifth grade students from Fountain Fort Carson School District 8 schools. This year’s theme is “Restore the Earth.” The Exchange will provide gift certificates to the winners of each grade.
An Earth Day paper shredding event is set for April 22, 2021, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at building 3710 north of Gate 20 off Specker Avenue.
A final part of Fort Carson’s Earth Day activities is an observance of Arbor Day, which includes a reading of the Arbor Day Proclamation to students during a tree-planting event April 22, 2021, at Patriot Elementary School beginning at 1:15 p.m.
Fort Carson is an Army leader in the Arbor Day Foundation program, earning the title of Tree City USA Community for more than 30 years. The installation has also received 10 Growth Awards, a Tree City USA recognition for demonstrating higher levels of tree care and community engagement during the calendar year.
