FORT STEWART, GA-- Soldiers from Company B, 2nd Battalion, 7th Infantry Regiment, 1st Heavy Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division, conducted a night time air assault training mission during the night portion of their Bradley table twelve, July 11. The mission focused on platoon search and sensitive site exploitation capabilities.
The Soldiers rappelled from a UH-60 Blackhawk helicopter into the Fort Stewart training area, approximately 500 meters away from the Military Operations on Urban Terrain site where they skillfully and successfully conducted a cordon and search of three buildings.
"I won't ask how we did because all I have to do is look around at the end of the mission and see all of the confidence that we have and know that we are there," said Lt. Col. Greg Sierra, 2/7 Inf. battalion commander. "You know how well you did."
After entering the buildings, "capturing" the occupants, and securing the area, the Soldiers collected any enemy weapons and gear and cataloged it to be used for gathering further intelligence.
"What we find here will lead us on to another objective," said Capt. Jacob Cross, the commander of B Co., about the information gathered in the sensitive site exploitation portion of the mission.
Through the successful completion of their training, the Soldier's of B Co., 2/7 Inf. gained the right to call themselves a lethal element and be considered ready for combat when the units deploys with the rest of 1HBCT.
