Gen. James McConville’s Farewell Statement to the 24th Secretary of the Army, the Honorable Ryan D. McCarthy
It has been my distinct honor and privilege to serve shoulder-to-shoulder with the Honorable Ryan D. McCarthy for the last four years. He is the Soldier’s Secretary. Secretary McCarthy epitomizes what it means to be a true public servant selflessly working on behalf of our Soldiers, our Families, our Civilians and our Soldiers-for-Life.
His inspirational leadership and unwavering integrity have spearheaded the most ambitious Army modernization efforts since the 1970s. He instituted reforms that put the Army’s People First, and guided the Army through some of the most challenging times affecting the Nation and our society in recent memory.
Secretary McCarthy’s transformational impact has been immense and our Army is better for it. As he completes his time as the 24th Secretary of the Army today, I want to thank him for his leadership and friendship. I wish him and his family the best as they prepare for their next rendezvous with destiny.
