GRAFENWOEHR, Germany — USAG Bavaria federal employees and military service members have until Jan. 15, 2021, to make a Combined Federal Campaign-Overseas donation. Pledges made during the campaign season will support eligible non-profit organizations that provide health and human service benefits throughout the world. This year’s CFC them is “Show some love. Be the face of change.”

“We have very little time left,” said Elena Smeltz, CFC program manager with USAG Bavaria. “The campaign portal closes on 15 January, so all donations must be submitted by then. The easiest, fastest and safest way to donate is online, by going to cfcoverseas.givecfc.org, creating an account, setting up a profile, choosing one or more charities and paying with credit card or payroll deductions.”

Additionally, CFC-O hosts a virtual 500k Relay with prizes. The deadline to participate in this relay is Jan. 9, 2021.

Throughout the USAG Bavaria footprint, $12,650 has already been donated as of Dec. 31, 2020. By the end of the campaign, the goal is to contribute $50,000 collectively.

What is the history of Combined Federal Campaign?

The CFC is an American tradition established by former President John F. Kennedy in 1961. It is exclusively for federal employees: one campaign, once a year. It offers federal employees a chance to make donations by selecting charities from the thousands of participating charitable organizations approved by the CFC. During its 59 years of existence, the CFC has been one of the most successful workplace giving campaigns in the world — with almost 200 CFC campaigns across the globe raising millions of dollars each year. Since creation, over $8.4 billion has been raised for charitable organizations. And in 2019 alone, the CFC raised over $83.8 million.

What is the 500k Relay?

The CFC-O “500k Relay” is a virtual event designed to engage the CFC-O community, build excitement and encourage donor giving through the CFC, while also meeting the recommended physical distancing guidelines. This event will be virtual and up to the participant’s discretion. The goal is for participants to walk or run a cumulative 500 kilometers. Participants must walk or run a minimum of one kilometer, and they are encouraged to sign up for any distance of their choosing.

How to register for the Relay?

Registration: Participants can register for the event between Dec. 18, 2020, and  Jan. 9, 2021, using SignUp Genius. Participants have from Jan. 1 to Jan. 9 to complete their walk/run(s), and notify the CFC-O by e-mailing the distance completed and supporting photos to support@cfcoverseas.org.

Can I win a prize?

All participants will be entered to win a prize-pack at the conclusion of the event. One entry will be awarded for each kilometer walked or run by the participant. On Jan. 11, 2021, CFC-O staff will draw five winners at random and make a public announcement regarding the winners. CFC-O prize packs will be compiled by the CFC-O staff and will include a variety of items.
