ABERDEEN PROVING GROUND, Md. – Five U.S. Army Information Systems Engineering Command employees received Black Engineer of Year Award 2021 nationally-recognized honors December 2, 2020.
The BEYA conference provides a platform for the Army to generate a professional dialogue with students and thought-leaders, and educates a national audience on the connection between STEM-related professional opportunities and the Army. Leaders are also recognized for contributions and accomplishments in science, technology, engineering and mathematics fields.
This year, ISECs Keithley Crooks, Dante Milledge, Kevin Ledbetter and Joseph Hill were awarded the BEYA STEM Modern-Day Technology Leader Award. George Grant received the Science Spectrum Trailblazer Award.
The winners will be officially recognized during the BEYA 2021 virtual conference, a three-day event that kicks off February 11, 2021.
"It is an honor to lead a team of so many talented individuals," said ISEC Commander Col. Osvaldo Ortiz. “I want to wish them, and the supervisors who worked hard to nominate them, a huge congratulations and thanks for their outstanding work in shaping the future of Army engineering, science and technology."
The Army Communications-Electronics Command, ISEC’s parent command, is no stranger to BEYA award-winning accomplishments. Retired Army Chief Information Officer/G-6 and former CECOM commander, Lt. Gen. Bruce T. Crawford, was honored as the 2020 Black Engineer of the Year. The prestigious recognition placed him among a select number of active-duty officers who have won the award since 1987.
CECOM will once again participate in this year’s conference, on behalf of the Army Materiel Command, to encourage recent graduates and students K-12 to one day become a part of the Army civilian force.
AMC’s Joint Munitions Command and Army Contracting Command employees also received honors that will be recognized during the BEYA 2021 virtual event.
