USAG Fort Buchanan partners to donate food, for this is the season to share and give a hand to those in need

FORT BUCHANAN, PR – US Army Garrison Fort Buchanan Religious Support Office led a food drive that collected more than 600 pounds of food donated by garrison personnel, tenants and customers to Bill’s Kitchen, November 23, 2020.

Garrison Commander Col. Joseph B. Corcoran III and Garrison Command Sgt. Maj. José A. Banks joined Garrison Command Chaplain, Maj. David S. Keller and Senior Religious Affairs Noncommissioned Officer, Sgt. 1st Class Kelly Spann III to deliver the food to Bill’s Kitchen in San Juan. This non-profit organization provides free food and services to approximately 800 men, women and children with HIV-AIDS throughout 42 municipalities.

The Defense Commissary Agency (DECA) joined the team giving a hand to those in need, not only by collecting food donations from patrons but additionally by donating $300 in gift cards, which were used to buy food. Army Air Force Exchange Service (Exchange), Pentagon Federal Credit Union (PENFED) and the Navy Operational Support Center (NOSC) contributed by placing boxes at their respective sites collecting donations from Service Members, employees and customers.

Col. Corcoran thanks the Fort Buchanan community as the garrison continues conducting this community outreach making a difference with the local community, especially during the Holiday Season.

Marisol Ramos, case manager at Bill’s Kitchen and staff members received the donations that “will provide a hot meal to many people who otherwise won’t have nothing to eat during the Holidays. We are so grateful to Fort Buchanan for giving us a hand to help support others.”
