FORT KNOX, Ky. — Soldiers, civilian employees and families of 83rd U.S. Army Reserve Readiness Training Center packed their rucksacks and hit the trail at Fort Knox Nov. 20 during their 2nd Annual "Giving Back” Feeding America Ruck March.
With motivational music courtesy of disk jockey Sgt. 1st Class Frank DelCampo and encouragement from event organizers, close to 50 gathered at the one-mile track behind Natcher Physical Fitness Center at lunchtime to participate. They weighed their rucks, then walked or ran around the track three times in a show of solidarity and support.
The unit collected over 2,000 lbs. of food during the 2019 march. Officials this year said they hope to surpass that number. All nonperishable food items will be donated to the local chapter of Feeding America.
Following are the winners:
1st place — Capt. Marcus Grove: total weight carried (100.4 lbs.)
2nd place — Sgt. 1st Class Tor Peterson: total weight carried (100.08 lbs.)
3rd place — 1st Sgt. Carlos Vicil-Deynes: total weight carried (69 lbs.)
