WASHINGTON -- Civilian professional development forums will be held next week to provide updates and vital information to the Army’s civilian workforce during the Association of the U.S. Army Annual Meeting and Exposition.
The Army Civilian Forum is scheduled Wednesday from 2:45-3:30 p.m. Eastern Time and includes a panel of senior civilian leaders that will highlight talent management efforts.
The keynote speaker of the event will be E. Casey Wardynski, assistant secretary of the Army for manpower and reserve affairs. Panelists include Todd Fore, deputy assistant secretary of the Army for civilian personnel; Anselm Beach, deputy assistant secretary of the Army for equity and inclusion; Michael Formica, deputy to the commanding general of U.S. Army Combined Arms Center; and Carol Burton, director of the Army Civilian Human Resources Agency.
The Army is the third-largest federal employer with close to 300,000 civilians operating throughout the entire force, according to the Army People Strategy’s Civilian Implementation Plan, or CIP, which was published in May.
One of the most recent efforts realized through the plan was the establishment of the new Army Civilian Career Management Activity, or ACCMA, within the CHRA. The new organization looks to provide centralized civilian career management across the Army enterprise. Under it, the Army’s existing 32 career programs will reorganize into 11 career fields, enabling the Army to build multi-functional leaders capable of leading organizations and the enterprise.
“These are very exciting times for the Army civilian workforce, and ACCMA will play a significant role in enhancing the effectiveness of career programs by expanding talent management capabilities throughout the Army civilian workforce,” Burton said Oct. 1 at the ACCMA ribbon cutting ceremony.
Burton added that ACCMA will serve as an integral component of the CIP, and will be instrumental in adjusting its organizational construct to improve integration, defining career fields more broadly, and improving efficiency through centralizations.
Virtual sessions or videos for at least 10 career programs are scheduled on Tuesday and Thursday during the annual meeting.
Experts in various fields are slated to conduct training presentations in the following career programs. All times are Eastern Time.
Tuesday:
- CP 16 Engineers and scientists (non-construction): 2:30-3 p.m.
- CP 36 Analysis, modeling and simulation: 3-3:30 p.m.
- CP 34 Information technology management: 3:30-4 p.m.
Thursday:
- CP 14 Contracting and procurement: 12-12:30 p.m.
