FORT LEONARD WOOD, Mo. — Military family members serve, sacrifice and share in the successes and the challenges of their service members. Consequently, when one of our teammates perishes in service to our country, their families bear the unimaginable weight of that loss.

Every Gold Star family member faces pain and an unfilled void left behind by their Soldier, Sailor, Airman or Marine.

On the last Sunday of September, we honor this shared sacrifice on Gold Star Mother’s and Family’s Day. As members of a grateful nation, we owe a debt we can never repay, but we have a sacred obligation to take care of these families.

Our Fort Leonard Wood team of teams is committed to supporting our Gold Star Families. Our Survivor Outreach Services team offers support, information and services. Services are available to all survivors and are available to facilitate care for as long as families need.

If you know or meet a Gold Star Mother or Family member, remember and recognize their personal sacrifice to this nation. Show them that they will always be a member of our military family by talking to them, asking about their service member and offering your personal support.

Victory starts here — victory through skill.
