GRAFENWOEHR, Germany – The Headquarters and Headquarters Company (HHC) of U.S. Army Garrison Bavaria conducted a change of responsibility ceremony, on July 28, 2020. During the ceremony, outgoing 1st Sgt. John P. Wright relinquished responsibility to incoming 1st Sgt. Daniel P. Deen.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, ceremony participants and guests wore masks and maintained physical distance throughout. A symbolic salute replaced the physical passing of the guidon.

Capt. William C. White presided over the ceremony. He expressed his appreciation for the past 14 months Wright spent serving the company.

“I personally cherish the NCO-officer relationship, because I would be lost without my senior enlisted advisor,” said White. “And with that being said, I would like to take a moment to recognize the hard work and exemplary service of First Sergeant John Wright.”

In his farewell speech, Wright recognized and thanked all who have shown dedication to the unit and support to him. His next assignment is at Ft. Leonard Wood, Missouri.

White also welcomed Deen to his new role.

“First Sergeant Deen, welcome. You have big shoes to fill but I know you are up to the task,” said White. “I am very excited to work with you over the coming months to take guarding the company further than it has ever been.”

Previously,

the incoming first sergeant worked as an operation sergeant for USAG Bavaria.

“I’m humbled for the opportunity to continue to serve soldiers,” said Deen. “HHC USAG Bavaria will certainly bring challenges, but I’m ready to crush it. First Sergeant Deen signing in. Sustain. Support. Defend. Soldiers first; rangers lead the way.”
