A new dining option opened up in “downtown” Picatinny Arsenal earlier this summer. Bunker Barbecue, located on the patio between Sam Adams Pub and the Picatinny Golf Club Pro Shop, serves soft drinks, burgers, wraps, snacks and a variety of beverages for those of legal drinking age.
“We branded it ‘Bunker BBQ’ for its ties to the golf community. “Our plans are to keep it open seasonality and to add a little extra service from what our customers regularly get when they visit Sam Adams Pub,” said Andrew Ciccolella, Director, Family and Morale, Welfare, Recreation Directorate.
Ciccolella said Rick Helmrich, food and beverage director, , initially designed plans to build a small outdoor BBQ space behind Sam Adams Pub to support the golfers, and expand the Sam Adams lunch menu during the week with several grilled food items.
“When the COVID (pandemic) hit and outdoor dining was the only thing permitted, this little spot became our hub for food service on the installation,” Ciccolella added.
Patrons have the options to order their food to-go or enjoy some socially-distanced outdoor dining under a new pavilion.
“We built a new pavilion on the outdoor patio last summer, and we have seating for about 60 people,” Ciccolella stated. “Once people started returning to base, we started services and it's been a hit.”
Bunker Barbecue joins a handful of other dining options on the installation, including Choices Marketplace, Bucky’s, Gunpowder Grill, Sam Adams Pub, and The Club at Picatinny.
Bunker Barbecue is available to anyone with regular access to the Arsenal. Hours of operation are Tuesday – Sunday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
