ABERDEEN PROVING GROUND, Md. — APG’s current and potential industry partners got a chance to learn about the Army’s projected plans and contracting opportunities for upcoming fiscal years during the installation’s annual Advanced Planning and Briefing to Industry, held June 9-10.

APBI was held at a later date and in a virtual environment, via Microsoft Teams, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It was originally scheduled as an in-person event in April.

Broadcasting from the Myer Auditorium, APG tenants provided their projected plans for the upcoming year. Presentations were made by Army Contracting Command-APG; U.S. Army Communications-Electronics Command; Defense Logistics Agency-APG; Program Executive Office Command Control Communications-Tactical and the Network Cross-Functional Team; Joint Program Executive Office for Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear Defense; PEO Intelligence, Electronic Warfare and Sensors; Combat Capabilities Development Command; Army Test and Evaluation Command and the APG garrison. Industry partners also got a chance to learn about APG’s Office of Small Business Programs and their priorities.

APG Senior Commander Maj. Gen. Mitchell Kilgo said about 600 people, on average, tuned in on the first day, while an average of about 500 tuned in during day two.

APBI sets the stage for the upcoming year for satisfying requirements and delivering capabilities to our forces, Kilgo said. In fiscal 2019, ACC-APG executed more than $13.4 billion in obligations over more than 27,000 contract actions.

“We thank you for joining us and we thank you, the industry, for supporting us and giving us the opportunity to deliver combat-ready capabilities to our Soldiers here at home and deployed,” he said.

Kenyatta Wesley, executive director of ACC-APG, spoke about how his office works to support Army Materiel Command’s priorities, including industrial base readiness, supply availability equipment and readiness, installation readiness, modernization and reform and adaptability. He also spoke about his team of Chiefs of the Contracting Offices who work with specific APG tenants.

Wesley said that while the COVID-19 pandemic has not impacted his office’s ability to complete its regular obligations, it has seen an increase in COVID-19-related work.

“It’s more of a positive impact,” he said.

Updated presentation slides and answers to questions posed over the course of APBI will be posted on the General Services Administration’s System for Award Management website, at https://beta.sam.gov.

Kilgo said APG will be planning for in-person and, if necessary, virtual iterations of APBI for 2021.
