Fort Knox Community Schools and installation officials have announced a unique 2020 Fort Knox Middle High School graduation event May 15 featuring a parade procession of graduates as well as a virtual graduation video immediately following on the FKMHS Facebook page.

In lieu of the normal graduation procedures, school officials will host a “Graduation Parade” in honor of the 2020 senior graduating class, which will allow community members to celebrate the students for their academic accomplishments in a CDC-approved and memorable way. The event also serves to commend the incredible work by the teachers and administrators who quickly and efficiently transitioned to a virtual leaning environment to enable the Class of 2020 to graduate on time.

The parade will begin at 5 p.m. and consist of students and their families riding along a designated parade route in their personal vehicles. The procession will start east of the Lt. Gen. Timothy J. Maude Complex and move past Brooks Field, ultimately ending on Maine Street in front of Fort Knox Middle High School.

Officials expect the parade to last about 45 minutes to an hour. Each student’s name, future plans and accomplishments will be announced as they drive by the school’s main entrance. The principal will also instruct the students at that time to move their class tassel to the left side of their cap as formal recognition of their graduation.

Members of the Fort Knox workforce and community as well as family members are encouraged to line the parade route to cheer on the graduates as they pass by, adhering to all CDC and Fort Knox social distancing instructions. The route, along with recommended parking/cheering points, can be found in the following document: Turn-by-turn parade directions.docx [DOCX - 5.3 MB].

Following the parade, Fort Knox Middle High School will play a virtual graduation ceremony video at www.facebook.com/DodeaFortKnoxMHS, featuring prerecorded student speeches as well as each graduate walking the stage and accepting their diplomas.

The parade event is scheduled to occur rain or shine.
