National Volunteer Appreciation Week, April 21-27, is a time to celebrate people's extraordinary accomplishments through service. It is also a time when the Army recognizes thousands of volunteers for their untiring volunteer support to Army communities.

This year's theme is "Volunteers, Strengthening a Nation." Lynn McCollum, division chief for Installation Management Family Programs, describes the theme as "the significance and value our volunteers bring to the table."

Volunteer Appreciation Week is headed by the Army Volunteer Corps whose mission is to promote and strengthen volunteerism. The program connects volunteers across organizations and Army components. Volunteers support Army garrisons in a variety of jobs to include coaches, office assistants, Family Readiness Group leaders, program assistants and more, according to IMCOM leadership.

"Throughout my Army career, I've seen so many individuals give of themselves to support our Soldiers, families, retirees and civilians. Margie, and I, also volunteer and are dedicated to keeping our Army communities strong," said Lt. Gen. Mike Ferriter, commanding general, U.S. Army Installation Management Command. "Many volunteer opportunities exist at Army Community Service centers, hospitals, and Family and MWR programs - including sports and Child and Youth activities. Volunteers are key to keeping our Army Strong and strengthening

our Nation. I invite and encourage you to get involved and give back to your Army community through volunteering," Ferriter said.
