CENTENNIAL, Colo. – More than 250 members of the Colorado National Guard (CONG) are helping the State Emergency Operations Center and the city and county of Denver shelter homeless people during the COVID-19 outbreak.
The CONG also is providing planners to support local emergency operation centers in other Colorado communities designated by the state.
“These Soldiers and Airmen are Coloradans who live and work in our communities,” said U.S. Air Force Maj. Gen. Mike Loh, Colorado adjutant general. “As a community, we are in this together and will get through this together.”
The CONG members, activated April 3 by Gov. Jared Polis, are from the Colorado Air National Guard 140th Wing, Buckley Air Force Base, Aurora; the Colorado Army National Guard 1st Battalion 157th Infantry, Colorado Springs; 193rd Military Police Battalion, Denver, and subordinate units across Colorado.
All the Guard members were medically screened.
Approximately 30 Soldiers and Airmen are also serving in their full-time roles supporting the CONG operation from Joint Force Headquarters in Centennial.
The Colorado Guard’s priorities are to protect the force and their families and all Americans while supporting local, state and federal partners to prevent the spread of the disease and save lives.
