Maj. Gen. Jeffery Broadwater

 Major General Jeffery Broadwater was born in Fort Benning, Georgia and raised in Radcliff, Kentucky. He is a 1989 Distinguished Military Graduate of the University of Kentucky and was commissioned as an Armor Officer. MG Broadwater’s initial assignment was with 2nd Squadron, 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment in Germany as a Scout Platoon Leader where he deployed to Saudi Arabia and

Kuwait during Operation Desert Storm in 1991. He later served as the Squadron Support Platoon Leader.

MG Broadwater returned from Germany and attending the Armor Officer Advanced Course at Fort Knox, Kentucky. He served in 3rd Battalion, 73rd Armored Regiment (Airborne) in the 82d Airborne Division at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. From July 1994 to February 1995, he served as the battalion assistant S3 and deployed to Haiti in support of Operation Uphold Democracy. He then commanded Company B, 3rd Battalion, 73rd Armored Regiment (Airborne) from February 1995 to July 1997. After company command, MG Broadwater attended graduate school in Monterey, California and taught at the United States Military Academy in the Department of Mathematical Science.

MG Broadwater attended the Command and General Staff College, MG Broadwater served in 1st Brigade, 1st Infantry Division at Fort Riley, Kansas from June 2003 to May 2006. While at Fort Riley, he served as the Battalion Executive Officer for 2-34 Armor and later as the Brigade Operations Officer and Brigade Executive Officer for 1st Brigade, 1st Infantry Division. He served in Ramadi, Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom as the Brigade Operations Officer.

After his time at Fort Riley, MG Broadwater Commanded 3rd Squadron, 7th U.S. Cavalry, at Fort Stewart, Georgia and as part of the “Surge” in support of Iraqi Freedom in Adhamiyah, Iraq. After command, MG Broadwater served as Cobra 07, the Senior Armor and Reconnaissance Trainer, and Bronco 07, the Senior Brigade Combat Team Trainer at the National Training Center in Fort Irwin, California. Following his assignment at NTC, MG Broadwater attended the National War College in Washington, D.C.

Upon graduation, MG Broadwater was assigned to the Army Review Boards Agency in Washington, D.C. He commanded 2nd ABCT, 1st ID from June 2012 to June 2014 where the BCT served as the First Regionally Aligned Brigade to AFRICOM. Next, MG Broadwater commanded the Operations Group of the National Training Center in Fort Irwin, California from July 2014 until August 2015. He then served as the Deputy Commanding General - Support for 1st Armored Division and as the CJ-5 for Resolute Support in Afghanistan. His last assignment was as the Commander of the National Training Center and Fort Irwin, CA.

MG Broadwater is a graduate of the Scout Platoon Leader’s Course, Ranger School, the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College, and the National War College. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Kentucky in Mathematics, a Master of Science degree in Applied Mathematics from the Naval Post Graduate School, and a Master of Science degree in National Security and Strategic Studies from the National Defense University. MG Broadwater’s awards and decorations include the Defense Superior Service Medal, Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Ranger Tab, Master Parachutist Badge, and Combat Action Badge.
