ROCK ISLAND ARSENAL, Ill. -- 403rd Army Field Support Brigade -- take a bow.

The 403rd AFSB, headquartered at Camp Henry, Daegu, South Korea, was spotlighted by American Forces Network-Daegu as their unit of the week Feb. 10-14.

The effort featured 403rd personnel live on AFN radio and videos highlighting the brigade's many missions and diverse workforce.

"The purpose of the Unit Spotlight Series is to dedicate a week of coverage to highlighting a unit," said Sgt. 1st Class Rob Fraizer, AFN-Daegu station manager. "The goals include focusing on how lower echelon teams are taking senior commander guidance and working to tailor and implement it at their level. We use multiple approaches to accomplish this -- which combine radio interviews and on-air promotion, spotlight and long-form comprehensive stories and use our platforms of AFN TV and social media to share the unit's successes to our audiences here on the peninsula and on TV throughout the IndoPacific Region."

The week kicked off with "Monday Motivation" hosted by Chaplain (Maj.) Carl Brown, U.S. Army Garrison-Daegu deputy garrison chaplain. The week's topic was "Leadership and Mentoring" and featured special guests Col. Wheeler Manning, brigade commander, and Command Sgt. Maj. John Ruiz, brigade command sergeant major. Manning discussed his leadership philosophy and outlined the brigade's many diverse missions emphasizing how the brigade supports not only Soldiers, but the community as a whole.

"We are one of seven Army Field Support Brigades across the Army, of course we are stationed here in South Korea, but out footprint extends out not only for the greater part of Korea, but into Japan as well," Manning said. "On a day-to-day basis, we do a number of things that touch the Soldier every day and touch the community every day. All of the busses that you see that run each day to take our kids back and forth to school, that's provided by the 403rd. We also do everything from OCIE (Organization Clothing and Individual Equipment), so if a Soldier wears it, it is being provided by the AFSB."

The 403rd also provides an abundance of "behind the scenes" support to personnel on the peninsula and beyond.

"We also have some other unique things that we do," Manning said. "In addition to dining facilities, we have a Quartermaster Laundry that provides laundry service and supports the hospital and clinics as well as providing individual laundry support. We even operate the Passport Office and Travel Office for leisure and official travel. There is a very broad range of things we do to support the community at the installation level."

The "403rd AFSB Week" on AFN-Daegu "The Eagle" continued with a live show on Wednesday featuring guest DJs from the 403rd AFSB. Master Sgt. Melisha Wilson (DJ Willie Will) and Sgt. Daisy Bailey (DJ Daisy) not only selected the tunes, but had the opportunity to talk about their careers, their time in Korea, and other topics. They also had the opportunity to highlight the 403rd AFSB mission and how the organization supports personnel on the peninsula.

The week also featured a videos illustrating the brigade's unique mission set and depicting unit personnel performing a variety of duties. Besides appearing on the AFN-Daegu Facebook and YouTube sites, the videos also appeared on the 403rd AFSB, USAG-Daegu and Army Sustainment Command Facebook pages.

"It was a lot of fun to see our people getting to show their natural talents," said Capt. Rosalba Chavez Newman, brigade logistics operations officer and unit public affairs representative, who helped coordinate the effort. "It was great to see the interest that was showed by AFN to get the story out with such care. This was a great project to work on."

AFN has been showcasing units since late 2019.

"It's always great when we have an opportunity to showcase the impact of the entire team as part of a campaign-style promotion on our platforms," Fraizer said. "We started doing this late in 2019 and have seen a boost in morale from units who appreciate the tailored approach we have to holistically showcasing who they are, what they do and the value-added impact of their service in Area IV."
